About MTDC

Established in 1992, MTDC was the first government venture capital company in Malaysia to invest in SMEs. The above quote affirms MTDC’s creation, resolutely standing with our mandate to facilitate the transfer of university-developed technologies and research to the market.

Over the following three decades, we spearheaded the technology development for SMEs in Malaysia via our venture capital and fund management activities, and covered a broad range of industry sectors, from semiconductor and advanced manufacturing to the agricultural sector.

The Science Advisor to YAB Prime Minister, and Founding Chairman of MTDC, YBhg. Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Omar Abdul Rahman was therefore proud to state that MTDC “trail-blazed the venture capital industry and kickstarted research, development and commercialisation in Malaysia.”

In achieving our primary goal of expediting the growth of emerging Malaysian SME technology companies and overcoming the challenges faced by our nation’s technology sector, we have seen our expertise broaden and we have extended our range of services.

This resulted in the creation of the Technopreneur Training Academy (TENTRA) in 2017, which focuses on the upskilling of talent. The Centre of Nine Pillars (Co9P) followed a year later focusing on SME technology adoption and application. Add to this our advisory services which, as part of our Value Creation activities, further increase the growth trajectory of Malaysian SME technology companies.

These initiatives have proven successful and remain in line with recent and relevant Malaysian government policies; such as NIMP 2030, which highlights Talent and Technologies as a Key Strategic Enabler in Malaysia’s journey towards becoming a high-income nation.

The success of MTDC’s initiatives and endeavours has been evident through the IPOs of 21 technology companies, approximately RM7 billion in revenue, the creation of 700 Intellectual Properties, RM1 billion in export value, and the generation of 9,543 Knowledge Workers, all stemming from MTDC’s ecosystem companies.

The years of experience, coupled with our successes, have perfectly positioned MTDC as the Technology Investment Company, especially for SME technology companies in Malaysia.

As we begin a new chapter in our journey, we extend our hand to partner with you in creating long-term values and soar beyond your technological dreams for today and tomorrow.
